Landscape Painting in Lacoste, France

September 15th, 2016 marks this fall's beginning of the Savannah College of Art and Design's Study Abroad semester in Lacoste, France. This small campus village in the Provence region has long been a destination for artists- before being owned by SCAD, it was frequented by artists enraptured by its light. Today, SCAD's study-abroad program allows students the opportunity to dive into their craft, and explore neighboring cities as well as major art museums and cultural landmarks. Kira Milligan will be spending eight weeks studying Landscape Painting and Architectural History, combining a love of the landscape and the built environment to fill sketchbooks and produce works on paper. Stepping away from her current painting practice of starting with photo-references from her home in Kenya, Milligan will instead work en plein air, immersing herself in the French landscape.
